The Ministry of Public Works will soon widen the major rivers in Jakarta.

Minister of Public Works (PU) Kirmanto spoke about the flooding that occurred in several locations in Jakarta. According to him, this is not just the responsibility of the lead agency, but also everything.

"The issue of flooding, this is not you, we work together. Was a common task. Works Do not just tasks," Djoko said when met after a coordination meeting at the Ministry of Economic Affairs on Wednesday (26/12/2012).

According to Djoko, the flooding that occurred in the capital was due to flood upstream (Bogor). Because rain is quite heavy and the river flowing in the Capital shallow and narrow, the water overflowed into houses.

The Ministry of Public Works will soon widen the major rivers in Jakarta. However, the plan is still blocked because there are many slums along the river.

"It should be on the river bank there that can prevent flooding its banks. Yet, there are still many settlements. Solution, if not a flood, yes, the river had widened and built levees," he added.

However, Djoko said, to relocate residents along the river is not easy. The Government will continue to negotiate with the local community in this regard, especially to relocate residents of the apartment or other location.

Moreover, the government should also provide compensation funds to be able to relocate the residents on the banks of the river. On the other hand, the government also plans to dredge the river. This will continue to be done in order to accommodate the large amounts of water so it does not overflow into houses.

Associated flooding that occurred in Jalan Thamrin and Sudirman Jakarta, Djoko explained, it was only because of a clogged drainage problems. "It was just a local drainage problems, it's because it clogged and should be cleaned up," he concluded.
